Subject: NW Greek Mythology topic

I don't think that I need a spoiler for this cuz I'm not spoiling anything.
Anyway, back to the topic.

WARNING: I'm no good at topics or this type of thing, so please bear with me, I'm trying.

If the NW was like Olympus, who do you think would be the corresponding god or whatever?

ie.
Zeus ---> Hunter Redfern
Hera --->
Hestia --->
Hephaestus --->
Hades --->
Hermes --->
Demeter --->
Poseidon --->
Aphrodite --->
Ares --->
Athena --->
Apollo --->
Artmeis --->

Anyway, there is my attempt at a topic, now I can go back to not thinking of topics.

And I might switch list servers because egroups has been giving me slack twice with the same message.

Give Way to the Night,
Lee Frost

spoilers for NW

SIDE BY SIDE IN SILENCE
THEY PASS AWAY THE DAY
SO COMFORTABLE, SO HABITUAL...
AND SO NOTHING LEFT TO SAY

NOTHING LEFT TO SAY
NOTHING LEFT TO SAY

SIDE BY SIDE IN SILENCE
HIS THOUGHTS ECHO ROUND
HE LOOKS UP AT THE SKY...
SHE LOOKS DOWN AT THE GROUND

STARES DOWN AT THE GROUND
STARES DOWN AT THE GROUND

SIDE BY SIDE IN SILENCE
THEY WISH FOR DIFFERENT WORLDS
SHE DREAMS HIM AS A BOY...
AND HE LOVES HER AS A GIRL

LOVES HER AS A GIRL...

AND SIDE BY SIDE IN SILENCE
WITHOUT A SINGLE WORD...

IT'S THE LOUDEST SOUND
IT'S THE LOUDEST SOUND...

IT'S THE LOUDEST SOUND I EVER HEARD

Zeus ---> Hunter Redfern. Thierry certainly doesn't fit.

Hera ---> Maya. She's got the spiteful (ex)lover thing down pat, except that dynamic is with Thierry, not Hunter.

Hestia ---> Aradia. She seems very earthy to me.

Hephaestus ---> Uh. Hugh, because he's missing a leg? I have no clue.

Hades ---> Thierry. Both sad. Remember, Hades isn't all bad.

Hermes ---> Ash. *lol* No idea why.

Demeter ---> Thea. She likes witchy things, and witches like plants...

Poseidon ---> Galen. Poseidon is often overlooked in favour of Zeus and Hades. Galen's often bypassed because he's not a 'bad boy'. If not Galen, then James.

Aphrodite ---> Blaise. Le duh.

Ares ---> Morgead. Hmmm.... both intense and bitter.

Athena ---> Keller. Both statuesque and strong and intelligent.

Apollo ---> Can I say Galen again? :)

Artmeis ---> Artemis. :) Not Kestrel, even though that's what most people will say. Artemis wanted to stay chaste, ne? Kestrel didn't have that vibe. I say Rosamund, Eric's little sister. Both are fierce, vaguely anti-male, and strong-willed. Intelligent.

[Hades ---> Thierry. Both sad. Remember, Hades isn't all bad.] I know Hades was pegged as this bad guy, especially in Disney's Hercules. It was Hera who was evil, making Hercules do those 12 labours.

[Hermes ---> Ash. *lol* No idea why.] Well I think I know why, Poppy. Hermes was the god of theft and commerce.

[Aphrodite ---> Blaise. Le duh.] Yeah that beauty thing. Well at least she didn't have a magic girdle :)

[Athena ---> Keller. Both statuesque and strong and intelligent.] agree with you there, but I don't think that Keller was a weaver?

[Apollo ---> Can I say Galen again? :)] Totally Galen! Like her wrote that poem for Keller, and Apollo was the god of poetry.

*ahem* Disney myth IS NOT factual. They don't do the stories -- even Hunchback, Pocahontas, et al -- with accuracy. They want cute animals and catchy songs to merchandise remember?

Well, first of all, Disney loves to mess with history. Second of all, Hades in the myths was misunderstood. Thirdly, Hercules (accidentally?) killed his family. He deserved to work his ass off, IMHO.

[ Well I think I know why, Poppy. Hermes was the god of theft and commerce]
? He was the messenger. Winged ankles and all that.

[[Aphrodite ---> Blaise. Le duh.][Yeah that beauty thing. Well at least she didn't have a magic girdle ]]
Never know. She makes jewellry....

[[Athena ---> Keller. Both statuesque and strong and intelligent.][I agree with you there, but I don't think that Keller was a weaver? ]
Everyone needs a hobby. Besides, how do you know Keller didn't make those jumpsuits herself? I doubt she did, but it's possible. And no one fits another person to a T anyway.

The big thing to remember with Greek Myth is that there's a million interpretations, just like any other history. Each telling gets a new, generally self-serving, bent to it. I've read at least 4 different tales of Athena's birth. Who's to say which is right?

PEARL JAM - JEREMY

At home, drawing pictures of mountain tops with him on top
Lemin yellow sun, arms raised in a V
And the dead lay in pools of maroon below
Daddy didn't give attention
Oh, to the fact that mommy didn't care
King Jeremy the wicked...oh, ruled his world...
Jeremy spoke in class today... (2x)

Clearly I remember pickin' on the boy
Seemed a harmless little f**k
Ooh, but we unleashed a lion...
Gnashed his teeth and bit the recess lady's breast...
How can I forget?
And he hit me with a surprise left
My jaw left hurtin'...ooh, dropped wide open
Just like the day...oh, like the day I heard

Daddy didn't give affection, no...
And the boy was something that mommy wouldn't wear
King Jeremy the wicked...oh, ruled his world
Jeremy spoke in class today... (3x)
Woo... (14x)
Try to forget this...try to forget this...
Try to erase this...try to erase this...
From the blackboard...

Jeremy spoke in class today... (2x)
Jeremy spoke in, spoke in... (2x)
Jeremy spoke in class today...
Woo... (29x)
Woooooohhh...spoke in, spoke in...
Woooooohhh...uh huh, uh huh...

1. Demeter - Aradia. Demeter was supposed to be the gentlest of all the godesses, and Aradia was pretty gentle, if i remember correctly.
2. Aphrodite - Certainly Blaise.
3. Artemis - Rashel, both fighters to the end.
4. Persephone - Thea, cos they're both kinda sweet, innocent and *fresh*, lol.
5. Pan - Ash, both into mischief and being *bad*
6. Ares - Hunter, ermmm....war? :0)
7. Nemesis - Maya, the revenge thing.
8. Iris - Iliana, they both have the sparkly, rainbow bright attitude, lol.

Yeah but the thing is that little kids believe that stuff, and they won't be told otherwise. But I'm not going to go any further with this, as to avoid an onlist feud.

I can't remember whether or not he killed his family or if someone else did. But wouldn't the furies have followed him around till he died?

[ [ Well I think I know why, Poppy. Hermes was the god of theft and commerce.] [ ? He was the messenger. Winged ankles and all that. ]

Yeah he was the messenger god and also the god of theft and commerce.

Well the reason that there are so many interpretations is because myths were not written the were verbally told, so everyone made their own little changes to each story.

Oh, I absolutely love this topic! Greek mythology is totally my forte! Spoiler space for complete NW series. And about Hercules....

[ Thirdly, Hercules (accidentally?) killed his family. He deserved to work his ass off, IMHO.]
[ I can't remember whether or not he killed his family or if someone else did. But wouldn't the furies have followed him around till he died?]

Actually, it goes way back t o when Herc was born. You see, Zeus had a little affair with this lady named alcmene and when little Herc was born (Greek spelling is "Heracles" meaning gift from Hera) Hera was pretty p.o.ed. So when he was married to Megara and had two kids, living all happy, Hera sent a fit of madness upon him so he killed his family = ( When Herc regained his senses, he went to Apollo and asked him to help him atone for his mistake, so Apollo sent him to the Delphic oracle so that he could find out how to rid himself of the evil. The oracle told him to do 10 labors, which would later be increased to 12. Herc would have to work under a really mean man-can't remember his name-something like Eurythesus-for 12 years and do his labors, and Apollo told him that after completing his labors he would become an immortal. And when Herc died and became immortal, Hera finally forgave them so they lived happily ever after in Olympus.

Now for the topic:
Zeus ---> Hunter Redfern-I believe that we've chosen him in a unananimous vote. He just seems like that type.
Hera ---> Now, I'd probably have to say...Maya. I mean, jealous over a boy, comes back in all of Hannah's lives to kill her-though Hera disguised herself a couple of times, and I remember her turning Io into a cow (didn't stop Zeus anyhow).
Hestia ---> Hmmm...Well, I'm going to have to say Hellewise. Hestia is the goddess of the hearth (which would, coincidentally, make her a "hearth-woman," no?)
Hephaestus ---> now, this one, I have no idea. I believe someone said Hugh earlier, and I would have to agree, even though Hugh was a hottie-but then when does LJ write about guys who aren't? ;-)
Hades ---> Thierry, definitely-Hannah was exactly like Persephone, out of his reach, but he finally did get the girl-and better yet-she wasn't coerced to spending half the year in the Underworld. Can also imagine Delos as Hades with Maggie as his Persephone.
Hermes ---> Ash, most likely. I mean, he was everywhere-in SV, DoD, DA, SM, mentioned in SB/EN. Also, Hermes was god of commerce and thieves as well as messenger for Zeus, guide to the Underworld (remember Poppy's dream with Ash?), and he invented astronomy and boxing (bring to mind DoD-even though he and M'lin didn't box, she did kick him around a little bit, lol)
Demeter ---> I could definitely see Rowan being a perfect Demeter.
Poseidon ---> no clue at all
Aphrodite ---> Blaise-I remember a quote from somewhere about Aphrodite-"In addition to her natural gifts she has a magical girdle that compels anyone she wishes to desire her." Does that remind you a bit of the necklace? plus in SB/EN, I remember someone, probably Thea or Blaise or maybe even Dani, talking about Aphrodite's magic girdle in context with Blaise's necklace.
Ares ---> I see Quinn as Ares. Ares was disliked by both of his parents-Quinn's father tried to kill him; Quinn was feared-a warrior, Ares was feared-god of war; but whereas Ares was a coward, I find Quinn to be brave and just awesome.
Athena ---> Jez, definitely. Weird births-Athena sprung fully grown from Zeus' head, Jez was just an "impossibility" considering who her parents were. Both fierce and brave in battle, but only fought when home (boundaries and such) or family/friends were threatened. Athena was allowed to use her father's weapons-most notably, the thunderbolt. Jez has the Blue Fire as her thunderbolt.
Apollo ---> And I am going to have to go with Galen here on this one-God of poetry, light, prophecy (maybe he didn't prophecize-sp?-, but, hey, he was sorta kinda tied up with someone who was part of a prophecy). Also the god of truth-he (Galen) was one for telling the truth, no?
Artemis ---> Rashel-"This kitten has claws." Artemis definitely has claws whenever some "evil" male sees her *gasp* bathing or *gasp* falls in love with her.

How about the Muses as well? I can definitely see Poppy or Jade as being the muse of dance and Mary-Lynnette as muse of astronomy. And the Fates would definitely be the Witchy Three-Grandma H., Mother Cybele, and Aradia-even though one is dead. Somewhere I remember it saying that no one, not even the gods, would mess with them. And, for the most part, the bad guys didn't mess with them too much-unless you count kidnapping Aradia and killing Grandma. I think I'll shut up...for now anyways. Just you wait til I don't have to study for exams!
