For Silvia. By Nikki. It's getting harder and harder for Poppy to remember what it was like to be human. To remember a time when the sun energized and renewed her instead of leaving her feeling like a lethargic sloth. To remember a time when she drank cocoa with little marshmallows in it before bedtime instead of blood. But while the difficulty in remembering life pre-vampire was bothersome, it wasn't nearly as bad as the fact that she honestly preferred life this way. Poppy liked being a vampire. She loved the way everything was heightened to the Nth degree. She loves the feeling of running nude through the forest with James, silently stalking a stag. She loves that, ironically, she's never felt more alive than she does at this very minute. ********* Some things, though, are remarkably and refreshingly the same. She still loved going thrifting, although she did it with James' cousin Thea instead of Elaine from English class. She still loves to turn her "weird" music up full-blast and dance around the room like a ferret on speed. She still taped Saturday morning cartoons so she and Jamie could watch them on lazy Sunday afternoons, sprawled out on the couch eating Doritos' and Zebra Cakes. And best of all, she still went to bed with the same feeling she had had since she was five years old, that she was going to spend forever with James. ********* Poppy loves traveling the country with James. Every day is an adventure. They've been all over the U.S. and to Canada as well. Poppy has discovered that she likes the East Coast better than the West Coast, and she likes her season's extreme. They manage to see her dad, her wonderful crazy witchy Dad, every couple of months. It took a while to convince her Dad that she wasn't an angel, but after she and James sat him down and explained to him why he was the way he was and all about the Night World, he took a deep breath and said "Ok. What's next?", and had been working with Circle Daybreak as diligently as someone like him was able to. They've even snuck back home several times to see Phillip. Wonderful, sweet Phillip who even now acts like she's his precious baby sister instead of something that could rip his throat out in the blink of an eye. He keeps her informed of how her Mom and Cliff are holding up and last time they were there he said he was going to go to college on the East Coast so he could spend more time with their Dad. Amazingly enough, he even grudgingly went to a Circle Daybreak meeting when he flew out to "look at colleges back East" a few months ago. ********* Life, unlife, however you want to look at it, is pretty good for Poppy Rasmussen. She had her soul mate, her music, her brother and Dad, Circle Daybreak, her friends. It might not be exactly what she pictured when she was a little girl, but she was happy. And in the end, that's all that matters. Back to the main page. Disclaimer: the characters, fictional settings, and universes created by L. J. Smith are copyright © Lisa J.
