Project Re-Read: Dark Visions
I'm starting re-read threads for all of the series, and I hope at least a few of you will decide to participate and rejuvenate discussions.
First-time readers, feel free to jump in too!
Possible discussion questions for re-reads:
- Have your opinions on any of the characters changed since the last time you read the books?
- Did you notice anything new this time around that you missed before?
- What do you think of the more sci-fi elements in DV as opposed to the more outright supernatural themes in LJ Smith's other works?
- Minority characters - do you think Lewis and Anna are believable minority teenagers or racial stereotypes? Has this opinion changed between your
first read and your current re-read?
- The Gabriel/Rob/Kaitlyn/Anna... thing. Did you notice anything new this time around, some little interaction that might have changed your mind on
how they all end up, for better or worse?
Please feel free to add any other thoughts or questions that occur to you as you re-read!
The prince must be a lion, but he must also know how to play the fox.

I just finished rereading this recently!
RE: Minority Characters
Honestly, I didn't view them as stereotypes, but I did wish there were a few more scenes with them using their respective powers. I did feel kind of
bad that Lewis was portrayed as short and geeky and, as a result, not a lot of girls went for him. And then you had Rob and Gabe who were tall and hot
and white. It would've been cool if Lewis was hot, too. I mean, hey why not? It's not like LJS doesn't love making everyone, even the bad guys,
gorgeous.
I liked Anna. She reminded me of me (not why I liked her, er, I think). But it was nice seeing a truly compassionate character who cared about animals
and other living beings so much. However, I also felt bad for her. She was described as being beautiful, but Kaitlin was the one getting all the
attention from the main guys. Like Lewis, I think she deserved better. In the end when she got with Rob, I felt like it was a cop-out, honestly.

When I first read this, I felt like it was Star Trek with psychic kids. Everyone was "represented" and they all had their place. I was also really
into paranormal stuff at the time and thought Gabriel was awesome.
I bet a DV ala The Naked Time fanfic would be awesome.
Anyway - this isn't a trilogy that I regularly re-read. I probably will soon though. (I'm almost done with a series now and then I'll tackle all the
LJ Smith books I have piled up...which is all of them. *cough*). I just didn't find Kaitlin that interesting. She was sort of like another Elena to
me in that she wasn't the most dynamic female, yet she was the focus of the story. I would be far more likely to re-read this than VD and most of the
NW books, though.
I totally loved that she chose Gabriel, though, and her explanation of why. I dated an awesome guy in HS and I broke up with him for the same
reasons, so that was a totally relate-able moment for me. (That's probably another reason why I don't read this series as much - the guy I broke up
with him for wasn't much better for me! =p)
