Bonnie's Dream
by Rena Baldinelli
Bonnie sat in one of those all night diners you see in the movies. The kind with the glass windows stretching along the front out-looking a two-lane highway and trees, and highly
polished wood and faux wood grain counters and tables decorating the interior. She sat watching as the occasional car drove by from the booth she'd selected and ignoring the grating voice of the country singer that crooned from tinny speakers. The maroon vinyl of her booth bench was split revealing white and yellow foam, and the seat rocked with her weight if she moved.
Bonnie caught a glimpse of pink and white from her peripheral vision and turned to see a pink waitress dress with a white apron with green trim cinched around the waist of the waitress, standing there with pen and pad poised.
"Can I take your order?"
Bonnie jumped and glanced up to meet Damon's impassive gaze watching her and he popped his gum impatiently. He was even wearing gaudy pink earrings and pink bangles on his wrist.
"Well?" he prompted shifting his weight in impatience.
"Coffee," Bonnie said, turning to gaze back out the window.
"Would you like an Anita Blake novel with that?" Damon asked,
uninterestedly as if it was a common question to ask.
"A what?" Bonnie glanced up at him in confusion.
"An Anita Blake novel." He repeated like she was a small child that just couldn't quite catch up to speed with the big people. "We have a new one in 'Obsidian Butterfly' it's all about Edward."
"Oh," Bonnie replied faintly. "Okay."
"Fine." Damon said marking on the pad one last time then turned and walked away. He was wearing white hosiery and orthopedic shoes.
Bonnie turned out to watch the cars speeding along the highway once again, when the song changed, and grew clearer. The sound of a familiar guitar riff boomed throughout the diner turning her attention back to the room.
Stefan stood on the counter dressed entirely in black except for a white apron and an utter lack of shoes. He held a mop and a spatula in one hand like you would a microphone and stand. He also had on make-up and his hair done similarly to Brian Molko of the band Placebo's appearance in their 'Pure Morning' video.
As Bonnie thought that Stefan started lip singing to Brian Molko's vocals from '20th Century Boy'. Suddenly, Bonnie noticed Matt and Alaric both dressed similarly to Stefan playing a broom and a dust mop like guitars with the song, and Tyler banging on pots and pans with wooden spoons. Blinking, Bonnie then saw three more pink waitress uniforms dressing Elena, Meredith, and Caroline who were also lip singing and go-go dancing.
Quietly, not taking her eye off the spectacle on the counter Bonnie rose from her seat and headed out the front door and into her parents' living room.
Bonnie stood there frowning for a moment not sure how she'd gotten here and then shrugged stepping fully into the room. She was standing behind the couch, where a blonde head sat watching TV. There was a cat food commercial airing with cats singing to the ad jingle.
"Hey! Look at me, sport, I'm a bat!" called a voice bringing Bonnie's attention to the other doorway that lead to the stairs and upstairs.
Hanging upside down from the casement was Klaus swinging faintly, with his trench coat pulled tight around him and his face. Only one pale blue eye peered out at Bonnie. Then in a blur of motion Klaus was climbing the walls and onto the ceiling, flicking his tongue in and out.
"Now I'm a gecko! See, sport?" He caroled from the ceiling.
"Shut up, Klaus!" screamed the blonde from the couch. "I'm trying to watch TV!"
Bonnie turned to see Katherine pouting up at the other blonde vampire. "Come watch TV with me, Bonnie." Katherine added smiling sweetly at Bonnie then turned back and giggled at the TV screen.
Bonnie stepped around the couch and sat down, wondering how often they were going to air the same cat food commercial.
"I love this commercial I could watch it forever." Katherine cooed as if reading Bonnie's thoughts and then poured a handful of Meow Mix in her mouth and chewed happily on it. "Want some?" she asked propelling the cat food towards Bonnie.
"No thanks." Bonnie replied, then returned her attention to the cat food commercial on the TV screen. Beside her Katherine started singing to the jingle, and then booed when the commercial ended and applauded with shrieks of laughter as it started all over again.
Klaus climbed over the back of the couch, still in his gecko routine and then stopped in a squatting position with his hands down in front of him, and started wiggling his nose. He raised a hand behind his head and pointed to fingers up and began looking
about.
Katherine giggled again covering her mouth with a hand then patted Bonnie on the arm. "Look! He's a bunny now!" she chimed.
"Yeah." Bonnie agreed, getting up out of the couch with more effort than she would have thought was needed, and headed for the stairs. Behind her Katherine had resumed singing the cat food jingle again and was feeding Klaus Meow Mix like you would a rabbit.
Bonnie climbed the stairs and entered her room and stopped with another frown.
"What do you want?" Her sister Mary demanded, arms crossed over her stomach, with hints of a black leather whip peeking out from behind an elbow.
Mary was dressed in a leather nurse's uniform, and black spiked stilettos and turquoise latex gloves. Her make-up and hair was done in a typical dominatrix fashion and she stood over a happily grunting Dick Carter kneeling on all fours like an over-eager puppy.
"Why's he here?" Bonnie asked gesturing to the boy with a ball gag in his mouth and dressed in only a hospital gown.
"He was a naughty patient. Why else?" Mary replied shortly, as if the answer were obvious. "I swear, Bonnie McCullough, you have no sense about you sometimes."
"Sorry," Bonnie muttered. "I kind of tired. I think I'm going to sleep for a while." She added with a yawn.
"Well don't let me stop you." Mary replied drolly, and Dick wiggled his hind end in the air at Mary as if to draw attention back to himself.
Bonnie shrugged and walked over to her bed to find Mrs. Flower's playing with Barbie dolls on her bed.
"I'll move," the elderly woman replied, her pig tails bobbing with her every move and hopped off the bed, and straightened out her plaid jumper's skirt pleats before gathering up her dolls and moving over to play at Bonnie's desk.
Bonnie climbed into her now empty bed with a sigh and close her eyes.

Bonnie fiddled with the phone cord as she waited for the girl on the other end to reply.
"Bon, you know I love you to death, but sweetie," Meredith remarked over the phone line with a short laugh. "You have some of the most fucked up dreams."
Bonnie gave a short snort of laughter in return. "Tell me about it."
"But just can't see Damon in a pink waitress uniform." Meredith added, and then fell into hysterics over the phone. "Oh! Bonnie you're priceless, you know that? God, I'm going to have the giggles over that for weeks, now."
Bonnie laughed with the girl. "I think I'm scarred for life now." She joked back. "Shit, I gotta go." She added hurriedly. The girls exchanged goodbyes and hung up.
Bonnie bounded down the stairs still smiling from her conversation with Meredith, and waltzed into the kitchen. And froze.
"What?" Mary demanded with her hands on her hip. Dick Carter
looked questioningly at Bonnie from behind her older sister.
Bonnie closed her mouth but felt her eyes were still large. "Nothing," she choked out, then walked to the fridge, grabbed a can of soda and headed to the front door humming the cat food jingle unaware of it.
